2 million tons by 2012

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has distributed a press release announcing the 2 Million Tons by 2012 statewide recycling goal. The press release describes the positive conditions that allow North Carolina’s local recycling programs to make a leap forward in their material recovery efforts. It also lists the current recovery rates of each county (including the municipalities within the county) against their “share” of the goal. Because of strong recycling and yard waste programs, some counties have already exceeded their targeted portion of the 2 million tons. Go here to view the press release and county listing.
