Description of Work
This position manages DPPEA's local government recycling grant and technical assistance program. Position is responsible for planning and executing the annual recycling grant cycles, ensuring that all solid waste regulatory and purchasing rules are followed in the grant making
program. Position oversees the work of staff managing specific grant contracts and ensures that procedures are followed in the fulfillment of grant requirements. Position also plans and coordinates DPPEA's local government recycling technical assistance efforts, setting
program priorities, implementing specific assistance activities and facilitating peer-to-peer contacts between municipal and county recycling programs. In addition, the position administers the annual local government solid waste reporting process, managing and using the resulting data to strengthen local recycling programs. Position will supervisor two staff specifically dedicated to local government recycling issues. This position is located in Raleigh, NC.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The individual must possess excellent research writing, communication and analytical skills. The position requires background knowledge of environmental issues, the waste management industry, and solid waste management practices and strategies for reducing waste from a variety of sources.

Training and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in agriculture, biological, engineering, environmental, natural resources sciences or closely related curriculum and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the employee with functional work experiences needed to perform the work of the position. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
