As the Wall Street Journal reported recently, charities in the United States are setting up their own private label cell phone services. With the help of companies like Sonopia organizations like the National Wildlife Federation are becoming micro cell phone providers, selling cellphones with add-on services like ringtones and free calls to Congress for its members. But the Sonopia deals raised some eyebrows. As National Geographic, for example, has reported, cell phone towers in and near national parks in the United States have sparked controversy as eyesores and a danger to wildlife, specifically migratory birds.
