LOCAL GOVERNMENT UPDATE – Communication methods
At the Carolina Recycling Association Conference in March, DPPEA asked local governments to complete a survey regarding their communication methods. Overall, Web sites (87%), flyers (79%) and tabling at community events (74%) were used most often.
When asked which communication method was the most useful, billboards scored the highest with TV ads coming in second. Web sites and tabling at events tied for third. With this information, it seems like more local governments should be using billboards as a communication method.
What are your thoughts? Do you use billboards to communicate with the public?

I'm surprised that TV ads were ranked the most useful. My local govt. has spent around $10,000 on ads in the last fiscal year, yet I never had one resident comment on them. What's the secret to using TV ads effectively?
