RE3.org announces winners of 2009 recycling commercial contest



RE3.org announced the winners of the RE3.org High School Recycling Commercial Contest in April to coincide with Earth Day festivities. Out of 33 submitted entries, Caleb Lipford, a student from Rocky Mount, was the winner of the inaugural contest that was open to all North Carolina High School students.


Lipford’s entry, entitled “Trash Fairy,” won the top prize of a $500 dollar AMEX card, donated by Time Warner Cable, which will go to his home school association to purchase video equipment and fund field trips. The runner-up is the Library Science Class 4A from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C., with its entry entitled “No Styrofoam Please.” “No Styrofoam Please” was also voted “Funniest Entry.” All contest winners and honorable mentions are as follows:

Best Recycling Message: South Mecklenburg High School, “It’s Baller”
Best Concept: South Mecklenburg High School, “Just One”
Most Entertaining: South Mecklenburg High School, “Trash Monster”
Best Stop Motion (tie): Lee Pham (Clemmons N.C.) “Recycle Origami”
Reade Daubin, (Greensboro N.C.) “Legos”

“Trash Fairy” and other top entries will air on Time Warner Cable channels. The commercials will also be available for local governments to air on public access channels throughout the state. To view the winning entries and other recycling videos, please visit RE3.org’s You Tube page.
