Your opinion counts

We have some new surveys for you to complete.

The N. C. Division of Environmental Assistance and Outreach (formerly DPPEA) wants your opinion on the Recycle Guys website. Please take the following survey to help us make changes to the site. If you want to open the Recycle Guys website in a separate window or tab in your browser while taking the survey, please do so.

We are creating a RE3.org avatar to further promote the identity of the campaign. We wanted something malleable and identifiable by many. It will be used on our website, at outreach events and on promotional items. Having an illustration versus a picture allows flexibility. We want people to customize and be actively engaged with the avatar, so we incorporated thought bubbles and interchangeable recyclable commodities that can be held, written on and organized by a user.

Recycle More NC Web site draft

As many of you know, N.C. DPPEA is embarking on a new recycling campaign called Recycle More NC for the 35-55-year-old demographic. Last year you helped us decide on the logo for the campaign and now we are asking you to help us decide on a Web site home page look. Please review the site mock-ups and let me know your thoughts below in the comment section.

Most of the paragraph text is fake. Do
not concern yourself with it. However, please review the draft links:
-Home - Gotta have this
-About us - Not sure about this one?
-Contact - Gotta have this
-Events - This will link to the Office of EE calendar

-Where to recycle - This will link to Earth 911 and/or the new Ecoville site that we are working on with CRA.
-Who to ask - This will link to local government contacts.
-Recycle on the go - This will be a new joint page on Recycle Guys, RE3 and Recycle More.
-Kids/Young Adults - Links to Recycle Guys and RE3.org
-For Coordinators – As with RE3.org and Recycle Guys, we will have tons of resources for local government recycling coordinators here.

Both formats include an area on the right hand side that will have new and updated information each month. Possible topics include:
-March=Spring Cleaning
-May=Composting
-October=E-waste ban
-December=Christmas tree recycling
Do you have any other ideas?

Specifically let me know about:
-Initial impression
-Location of links - top versus side versus both
-Color scheme/font
-For the right hand side, what are your thoughts on text versus graphics there? How much of each is just right?

Use of new media by RE3.org

Guest Blogger - Leslie Hamilton
Graduate Student at George Washington University

I am a Master of Public Health student at George Washington University School of Public Health and am working on my thesis. I would like to ask you a few questions about the RE3.org recycling campaign's use of new media. You may have responded to a similar survey last year. This is a follow up survey to see if anything has changed.

I am very interested to hear your thoughts about how the new media parts of the RE3.org campaign have helped or not helped your work as a recycling coordinator/environmental educator. I would greatly appreciate it if you could complete this short survey about your experience with the RE3.org campaign and new media techniques. The survey should take less than 10 minutes. Your answers will be completely confidential and not shared with any identifiers to you.

Curbside Recycling Participation

Why do some people not participate in a curbside recycling program? You can’t get any more convenient than picking recyclables up at the curb. This summer our goal is to survey folks around NC to find out why.

Some of our assumptions are:
-Lack of knowledge
-Lack of time/too busy
-Lack of storage space
-Pest concerns/messiness
-Difficulty moving bin to curb
-Costs more to recycle
-Don't believe recycling makes an impact or difference
-Not in habit/forget
-Too much effort
-Don’t have bin/cart

Which one do you think will get the most votes?

RE3.org SURVEY QUESTIONS - Bar and Restaurant Recycling

Guest blogger - Lindsay

Do you go to bars? Do you drink beer, liquor or wine? RE3.org has developed some posters that are geared toward awesome people like you. A new NC law now requires bars and restaurants to recycle cans and bottles instead of throwing them out. The campaign helps to show people like yourself that, just because you want to have an enjoyable time drinking, it doesn’t mean that you can't help out the planet. Recycling is sexy. You can be sexy, too, if you fill out our survey about the posters. Tell us which one is your favorite.

Public Insight Journalism Survey – What does pop culture say about consumerism?

Shop, buy, spend... recycle? Messages from the consumer culture Madonna knows that we live in a material world. Al Gore says the inconvenient truth is that our lifestyles are killing the planet. Elle Woods tells us there's no harm in a little "retail" therapy to fight the blues. What are the songs, movie clips or commercials that spur or spurn our consumerist ways? This fall, American Public Media shows like Marketplace, Weekend America and Speaking of Faith will air a week of stories about our consumer economy and whether it's sustainable. We'll be asking for your help as we prepare for the series we're calling Consumed!
