RE3.org Survey Results - UNC Charlotte, Spring 2007


In April, I went to UNC Charlotte to conduct a survey and focus group about the RE3.org graphics and commercials. The results are:





Favorite to Least Favorite for the graphics:
-Boone to Bald Head
-RE duce, RE use, RE cycle
-Recycle Today
-Proof of an Afterlife
-Find a Bin

Favorite to Least Favorite for the commercials with comments from students included:

-Tag
Q: What did you like about this commercial?
A: Everything. It is realistic, funny and represents the general public. It is also like real life to make fun of others.

Q: How does it keep your attention?
A: Fast paced. Want to know what is going on.

Q: How well does it relay the recycling message?
A: Lazy is the heart of it. It is ironic when they are laughing. This could be a Superbowl commercial.

Q: How do you think the 18-24 year old demographic would respond to this commercial?
A: It is good for this demographic.

Q: How does this motivate you to recycle?
A: It does make you think twice before throwing something away.


-Epiphany
Q: What did you like about this commercial?
A: It is funny, playful and silly. It appeals to guys but girls like it also.

Q: How does it keep your attention?
A: You wonder what it is about.

Q: How well does it relay the recycling message?
A: The message is catchy but it doesn’t explain why we should recycle. Is it still important to explain why?

Q: How do you think the 18-24 year old demographic would respond to this commercial?
A: It would be better for high school students because they are still moldable.

Q: How does this motivate you to recycle?
A: It doesn’t motivate.


-Jerry and Amanda
Q: What did you like about this commercial?
A: The funny face he made at the end. The guy was surprised that recycling was a big deal.

Q: How does it keep your attention?
A: The dialogue keeps your attention.

Q: How well does it relay the recycling message?
A: It doesn’t portray the message well.

Q: How does this motivate you to recycle?
A: Most felt that it did motivate but didn’t explain how.


-Longing Can
Q: What did you like about this commercial?
A: The voice, message and squirrel.

Q: How does it keep your attention?
A: The average viewer doesn’t care about the can. It doesn’t keep my attention.

Q: How well does it relay the recycling message?
A: I resent the guilt message.

Q: How do you think the 18-24 year old demographic would respond to this commercial?
A: It is good for an older demographic – 65 and up.

Q: How does this motivate you to recycle?
A: It doesn’t motivate


-Mobsters
Q: What did you like about this commercial?
A: Liked the Mafia theme but the guy isn’t good with an accent. A person would like this commercial if they liked the Sopranos but everyone can relate

Q: How does it keep your attention?
A: It is corny. You think it is going to be about something else and then they recycle.

Q: How does this motivate you to recycle?
A: It doesn’t motivate.
