JOBS: N.C. DPPEA Environmental Design Internship


Paid Internship – Raleigh, N.C.

Looking for an opportunity to build your resume, portfolio and/or receive school credit? Do you believe that graphic design and advertising can make people change their everyday behavior for the betterment of society and the environment?

If you screamed “YES!” to the questions above, we want to talk to you and see your work. We are a non-regulatory division of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. We have three campaigns that you will be a part of: Recycle Guys (dancing cartoons aimed at 5-12-year-olds), RE3.org (campaign geared toward 18-34-year-olds) and Recycle More NC (for the 35-55-year-old demographic).

Your responsibilities include assisting with design and production of current and future campaign materials that reach a variety of media, including print (brochures, flyers, newspaper ads, posters), Web, cinema, various promo items (coasters, key chains, T-shirts), billboards and video. You will work with another designer on staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:
The position is open to graduate or undergraduate students with a concentration in graphic design, art and design, digital media, arts education or other related fields. Applicants should:
- Have strong verbal and visual communication skills

- Know Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver
- Have the ability to use PCs including Microsoft Office applications

- Be creatively versatile
- Have good organizational skills

- Be able to work independently


The paid position is open only to currently enrolled students (summer 2010 and fall 2010). We accept volunteers for unpaid positions. If you have graduated and are looking for a project for portfolio material, feel free to contact us. All resumes received will be passed around to other divisions within DENR that might have available positions.


WORK SCHEDULE:
Employment would begin May 24, 2010 and would continue through the fall semester. The student would need to work at least 10 hours per week throughout the school year. The position is located at 2728 Capital Blvd in Raleigh. The hourly wage will be $11-$12.50 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits will not be provided.
